Due to pollution in this lake I am no longer recommending this as a great fishing area. There are many, many other great fishing spots in Western North Carolina.

There is not a public boat ramp that I know of.
The only access I am aware of is via Mr. Mitchell Phillips' landing. It is his private property but he does allow access to the reservoir. BUT you MUST have a 4 WHEEL DRIVE vehicle or you will not make it back out & up the steep hill access. Please know this is true! I have been there!
Off I-40 N take exit 15 then turn left on Fines Creek Rd to go under the freeway. Go to the White Oaks Baptist Church, go past it about 2 miles, it will turn to a dirt road. Then take the right fork down a dirt drive which is Dicks Trail ,there is a sign that says "Blackwater" a fish sign. You will have to make a sharp right there onto Elkhound Rd. That indicates Mr. Phillips property. He has had a tin cup next to the small log cabin off the access dirt road with a sign that asks that you put $15.00 in the cup for a boat/trailer before proceeding to the lake. Please understand that this is private property and that this is information from 4 years ago and may not be accurate any longer therefore I am not responsible for any inaccurate data of the current property ownership or even if the access still exists. Sorry.
